Alison Harmer

Openness  ·  Empathy  ·  Professionalism

I offer honesty, openness, empathy and, above all, professionalism. Having witnessed growth and change in many individuals I hold the belief that the person-centred approach, which is at the core of my practice, can facilitate new and lasting empowerment.

The humanistic approach formed the core of my training although I am able to draw on other theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Existential and Pluralistic Therapies.

Counselling Profile

I have been a practising Counsellor for a number of years and have also worked within the NHS for over 20 years.

In the past, I have volunteered and worked with the charity, 'Counselling for Social Change' and remain involved with the organisation as a trustee.

In my own life I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I enjoy the outdoors, am an enthusiastic cook and keen traveller.

I offer face-to-face, telephone or online sessions.

Supervision Profile

I hold a Level 6 Certificate in Counselling Supervision.

My supervisory approach is primarily person-centred but I draw upon other theoretical models.

I work facilitatively and empathically with the counsellor, supporting and empowering them in their development and enhancing their practice and their work with clients.

All of my work is underpinned by the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions as outlined by the BACP.
